You may have noticed I haven't updated the blog in quite some time! well that's because I've been quite busy! really busy in fact so here's what I've been doing!
I attended the Game Horizon 2010 conference at the Sage in Gateshead. From a personal view I think it was great, what made it stand out was the fact that it wasn't just about the UK it was about the whole industry in general and it was nice to see a common theme throughout the conference. What's big in the gaming industry at the moment? SOCIAL games. Developers have went crazy for this and understandably so - there's a hell of a lot of money in it.
What I did see a lack off though was innovation, I think it's a key area to look for in the future because innovation allows the industry to grow. It seems to me less and less AAA titles are about innovation and they're sticking to what they know works. It's us the 'indie' developers that have the creative freedom to create some really fantastic games and be the leaders in creativity and innovation. Since our development budgets are so small it means we can take these risks and personally I think it's worth it. It becomes more about the game than money (although money is nice) but the game being a game is a driving factor. All you see in the console market is sequel after sequel which isn't necessarily a bad thing but can be detrimental in the long run to the progress of the industry.
Right well what have I been doing with my games? I've now got 4 unique projects on the go now, yes 4! and there's only me 0_0 no wonder I've not been getting much sleep. Well I think I'm going to break these down: 2 full games and 2 demo's. I know I can't make them all because I have to leave time to breathe, eat and sleep. I'm looking into a variety of publishing options for my demo's which then can be funded. There's one game in particular I'm very excited about and it aims to help with bipolar. So if anyone's interested to know more drop me a line at rowan@grimlegacy.com
I'm also going to revamp the website (when I have time) something again simple but good, so drop me a line with any comments and suggestions on what it should look like.
I forgot I posted up some screens of my Zombie game for you all to gaze upon, I must stress that this is a early version and in no way resembles the final product.

So there you have it! thank you for your time and I think from now on I'm going to update my blog every Friday so be sure to come back for some more Grimlegacy goodness!
Cheeryo
Rowan.
