Rowan Haddow
Hey, my name is Rowan Haddow, I graduated in 09 with a 1st Class degree in Multimedia Games and I was also awarded the academic prize at Sunderland University in the UK. At the moment I'm currently studying a Masters Degree called 'Software Enterprise' where I'm making my first major game project.
My background is mainly in Art and Design as I have a GNVQ and AVCE in it. These are the equivalent to 4 GCSE'S and 2 A-levels. In my recent past I've known to make the odd website or two, 24 in fact but now they no longer interest me.
I've had a passion for games ever since my youth playing Tetris on the old beasty Gameboy and Super Mario Kart for the SNES. I realised after College I had a huge gaming collection, too big in fact so I thought Hey, lets try and make my own!
During my time on the Multimedia Games course I learned about the processes of going through a game project from the High Treatment to the Post Mortem to various game mechanic theories such as A Star and path finding. My course wasn't just all about games, it provided me with skills in Software Engineering (Snore) website design, managing major projects basic programming theory and 3D Design. One of the best parts of the course was 3D, I loved it and managed to get over 90% on my first assignment. I'm a really quick learner and pick things up straight away much like I would playing a video game.
The software enterprise course I'm on now is all about developing and nurturing a product or service to then take it to market. Since working on my own projects for some time I thought it would be a great opportunity to develop my games. Since being on the course I've met some great people in the industry by going to conferences and signing up to gaming networks like Game Horizon where I was able to show off my game at a member meeting.
I'm looking forward to getting into the games industry be it from my own game projects or landing a job with a great games company.
I've got extensive skills in animation, character design, 3D design, Texture art, video production - yeah I could go on all day =P
